Beth Plimsoll works as the first mate on a fishing boat. After her Aunt Dody breaks a leg, Beth temporarily leaves the sea to take care of Dody at her Los Angeles home. While shopping for flowers, Beth gets her photo taken without her knowledge by freelance photographer Jake Myer. Jake sends the photo to his employer under his alias, Shutterbot. The next day, Beth and Jake randomly meet at a dog park. The two form an instant connection and start dating. Soon after, Jake's employer puts Beth's photo on its magazine cover. The picture goes viral, making Beth a celebrity. Beth is overwhelmed by the sudden fame, and Jake is hesitant to tell her that he's Shutterbot.
